About Jodai-Gire luxurious textiles have played an important role in Japanese culture from early times down to the present.Rich silks,fine ramie,soft cottons and other bast fiber materials have been produced and used in abundance over the years. But historically,perheps one of the most significant groupes of textiles in Japan are those known as Jidai-Gire(ancient-textiles) Ancient(Jodai),in this instance,refers only to the seventh and eighth centuries A.D. Some 180,000 pieces have been preserved in temples and collections,mainly in Horyu-ji and in the Shoso-in to the present.
For readers who wish may wish to see actual specimens of Jodai-Gire on display,there are unfortunately only a few chances.
