Japanese Title Murooji no Mihotoke Tachi
Publication Year 1999
Muro-ji is a temple of Omoto school of Shingon Buddhism, located in the city of Uda, Nara, Japan.
Muro-ji shows its typical aspect of Shingon Buddhism, with its buildings laid on the moutainside of Mount Muro.
Unlike many temples of the time, Muro-ji was opened to females. For that reason, the temple is also called Mount Koya for women.
The Englishi forword to this book says,"Muroji owns excellent buildings and art rteasures.TheFive-story Stupa,whose lovely figure so gracefully harmonaized with the surrounding scenery,became a familiar symbol of ths women's Koya.The tower suffered considerable damage from trees blown down by the strong winds of typhoon no.7 in September last year,and restoration work on it is currently underway.
This is the first time so many Muroji sculptures have been on display together,and we consider it an important opportunity to help with the restoration of the stupa while experiencing thebeauty of these various images."
