In the he preface of this book, Prince Takamado says,"On His Majesty's ehthronement,as well as on numerous othrt occasions,the members of the Imperial Family wear various types of robes caps and other regalia.These all comprise the formal court dress of of the Imperial Family,and even today we still wear the ancient,traditional styles.
The robes and othe articles being shown in this exhibition include the court dress worn by Their Majesties upon His Majesty's enthronement,as well as the formal attire prescribed for various rituals and functions throughout the year.
While it is true that the traditions of court dress we brought to Japan from the Asian continent in the course of diplomatic relations, they developed according to the traditional culture and customs of Japan,and have been in continuous use for over a thousand years.During the period,although there have been great changes in society,the lamp of traditional culture has not died out and is still burning brightly today""
