This book was published as a catalogue of an Exhibition held by Suntory Art Museum in 1999.
The preface says,"The Suntory Museum of Art,established in 1961 as one the firm's cultural activities,ha focused on the central theme of Beauty in daily life,actively collecting traditional art works rooted in the lifestyle of the Japanese.These works comes from a diverse array og genre painting,lacquerware,poettry and porceloin,metalworks,textile and glass and the collection now houses more than 3,000 objects.
The present exhibition is the first of the series in commemoration of the Suntory's centennial anniversary and presents a rigorously selected works from our collection.
It is our greatest hope that ,through these many masterpieces,visitors to the exhibition will be able to fully enjoy the beauty and rich ingenuity of Japanese traditional arts,which have been brought up both in daily life."
