【Description】 Title Ichiku Tsujigahana Famous Collection by Ichiku Kubota Publication year 1982
This book is a collection of Kimonos dyed by Ichiku Kubota.Kubota's Inspiration has been a type of dye called Tsujigahana, which was widely used in japan from the middle of the Muromachi period until the Momoyama period, but was soon completely replaced by the Yuzen dyes of the Edo period.Tsujigahana was basically an elegant form of tie-dyeing,supplemented here and there with hand-painted designs and embroidery. Instead of trying merely to duplicate Tsujigahana works that have been preserved,Ichiku Kubota has developed a modern version of his own, suited to contemporary use.
Tsuji-ga-hana may be defined as “what is used on the premise of tie-dyeing with drawing pictures, impressing foil, and embroidering”. It has disappeared suddenly,so they are often called phantasmal Tsujigahana.
