This is the 17th volume of a series 'Ukiyoe compendium'(total 17 volumes), titled 'One Hundred Famous Views of Edo 2'.
One Hundred Famous Views of Edo was made by Utagawa hiroshige in 1856-1858, which has 118 pieces of Ukiyoe. This is said to be one of best completed Ukiyoe. It is famous story that some of them impressed Gogh-he made duplicate work- and this became a representative art of 'Japonism'.
This volume contains approx 60 color photos and approx 40 B&W photos of the work. Page 102-end comments of the works
Ukiyo-e, "pictures of the floating world", is a genre of Japanese woodblock prints (or woodcuts) and paintings produced between the 17th and the 20th centuries, featuring motifs of landscapes, the theatre and pleasure quarters. It is the main artistic genre of woodblock printing in Japan.
