This is the 10th volume of a series 'Ukiyoe compendium'(total 17 volumes), titled 'Kunisada,Kuniyoshi,Eisen'.
Utagawa Kunisada (1786 - 1865) was the most popular, prolific and financially successful designer of ukiyo-e woodblock prints in 19th-century Japan . In his own time, his reputation far exceeded that of his contemporaries, Hokusai, Hiroshige and Kuniyoshi.
Keisai Eisen-his best works, including his okubi-e ("large head pictures"), are considered to be masterpieces of the "decadent" Bunsei Period (1818–1830).
This volume contains 64 color photos and approx 200 B&W photos of their works.

Ukiyo-e, "pictures of the floating world", is a genre of Japanese woodblock prints (or woodcuts) and paintings produced between the 17th and the 20th centuries, featuring motifs of landscapes, the theatre and pleasure quarters. It is the main artistic genre of woodblock printing in Japan.
