This is the 3rd volume of a series 'Ukiyoe compendium'(total 17 volumes), titled 'Shunshō'.
Katsukawa Shunshō (1726-1792) was a Japanese painter and printmaker in the ukiyo-e style, and the leading artist of the Katsukawa school. Shunshō is most well-known for introducing a new form of yakusha-e, prints depicting Kabuki actors. However, his bijinga (images of beautiful women) paintings, while less famous, are said by some scholars to be "the best in the second half of the [18th] century"[
This volume contains 77 color photos and approx 220 B&W photos of his works and some of other painter.

Ukiyo-e, "pictures of the floating world", is a genre of Japanese woodblock prints (or woodcuts) and paintings produced between the 17th and the 20th centuries, featuring motifs of landscapes, the theatre and pleasure quarters. It is the main artistic genre of woodblock printing in Japan.
